New Friends

It seems like we have been together for a long time now, even though it has only been a couple of action packed weeks! I have enjoyed watching you explore the city, even if that means abandoning the County Museum of Art for the 99 cent store! Luckily we haven't lost any of you yet, especially in that Hollywood Bowl sea of humanity.

Surely more good times lay ahead of us; I am already a little sad to think of you all leaving at the end of the month, although that will mean a lot more rest for me!

Many of you have asked me to bring a snap of my girlfriend, so I decided to post one here on my blog. This use of technology is still new to me, but I am learning too, just like all of you!

We have created a new community

Just a few days ago, swimming in the ocean and relaxing on the beach, I enjoyed a peaceful summer day.

Since then, energy has invaded my life. Driving to and from the airport, dragging luggage, hiking to dining halls at 7am, and seeing cheerful faces all along; it has been a pleasure hosting the Indian and Pakistani teachers here at my university. I don't know all of your names yet, and I still have much to learn and share with you; but we have created a new community. I eagerly await the many opportunities this community holds in store for us.

Let us remember that we must be the change we see in the world. We have a special opportunity to learn and grow and challenge ourselves during the next six weeks; I look forward to making the best of it - even at the expense of my summer rest!

Thank you very much for exhibiting the courage to embark on this adventure. I will try to equal your mettle.
